No. 7 Rangers lock up two seed in RMAC Tournament with 5-2 win over Griffins.

Box Score DENVER, Colo. -  No. 7 ranked The Regis University men's soccer team (13-3-1, 10-3-1 RMC) rebounded from their last game and closed out their regular season schedule with a 5-2 victory over the Westminster College Griffins (4-13, 3-11 RMAC).

Junior Sawyer Lincoln got the day started as he took a pass from sophomore Noah Chapleski and drilled home the opening goal of the game giving Regis a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of the first half.

WC would outshoot the Rangers in the first half 6-4, but they were unable to respond and RU carried their 1-0 lead into the second half.

It took only eight minutes for the Griffins to net the equalizer in the second half as they tied the game 1-1 in the 53rd minute. However, the home team broke the game open as they scored two goals in a two-minute span.

Redshirt-senior Ryan Urwiller netted his fourth goal of the season as Chapleski picked up his second assist of the game on the play. Less than two minutes later, Chapleski changed roles and this time did the scoring as he extended the Regis lead to 3-1 in the 59th minute. Senior Tom Grimley earned the assist on the play, his first of the year.

The visitors netted the next goal of the game to bring the game closer, but Lincoln was back at it again. The forward exploded for two goals in one minute and 20 seconds to seal the deal for the Rangers in the 77th and 78th minute.

Although RU won the game 5-2, they were outshot 15-12 overall but they managed to put two more shots on goal than WC. Regis took four corner kicks in the match and limited the opposition to only two.

Up next for the No. 7 ranked men's soccer team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament which begins Wednesday, November 2. The Rangers locked up the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and a first-round bye, with the win today. The team will now await the outcome of first-round matches to determine their opponent in the second round.
