DENVER, Colo. – The No. 17 ranked Regis University Rangers (10-1-2, 8-0-1 RMAC) steamrolled the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets (0-12, 0-7 RMAC) 8-0 on Friday afternoon, winning their seventh straight match.
How It Happened: Regis enjoyed a day full of shots, scoring five goals in the first half. Senior
Cate Parchinski got things started with a header goal as fellow senior
Mickie Piechowski served a cross to the far post after only 7:36 minutes of play. Senior
Rikki Fix netted the Rangers' second goal as she slotted her shot into the bottom right corner of the net to put the home squad up 2-0.
The third goal came less than two minutes later when junior
Bethany Hohnstein connected on her third goal of the season, blasting her shot from 25 yards out, Parchinski picked up the assist on the play. Junior
Annika Hills got in on the action scoring in the 34
th minute to put RU in front 4-0. Sophomore
Sofia Garcia extended the lead to five goals with a header goal in the 43
rd minute as Hills tallied the assist on the cross.
At halftime, Regis held a 5-0 advantage with no intentions of letting up offensively or defensively. After 45 minutes, the Rangers had not allowed their opponents to take any shots. At the same time, the home squad had already recorded 25 shots.
RU cooled down in the second half as senior
Wesley Flood, Fix and sophomore
Tori Rinsem combined for three goals. Flood's goal was her first of the season, coming in the 80
th minute. Regis repeated their defensive effort, preventing any shots from BHSU in the final 45 minutes.
Game Notes: The Rangers set history by taking the most shots in team history (43) while holding their opponents shot-less for the entire match. The eight-goal outpouring ranks second in the record book for most goals scored in a single game. RU earned 17 corner kicks in the game, holding the Yellow Jackets without a single corner. Fix finished the match with a career-high 10 shots, putting seven of them on goal, scoring two and assisting on another for a career-high five points. Parchinski also recorded a career-high with nine shots, scoring one and tallying one assist.
Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 17 ranked women's soccer team will finish out their regular season with four road games. Their next contest will be a Wednesday, October 18 non-conference skirmish against the No. 6 ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (9-1-1, 6-0-1 RMAC) in Golden, Colo. Two days later, the team will travel to the home of the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (7-3, 5-1 RMAC) for a conference battle at 5 p.m.
