GOLDEN, Colo. – The No. 16 ranked Regis University women's soccer team (10-2-2, 8-0-1 RMAC) had their seven-game win streak and 12-game unbeaten streak snapped at the hands of No. 18 ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (11-2-1, 7-1-1 RMAC).
How It Happened: The matchup between the top two teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) played out in the favor of the home squad. In the 16
th minute, the Orediggers broke the silence with a header goal from Taylor McRae Cole who got on the end of a free kick coming from midfield.
A little more than 15 minutes later, Haley Cole from CSM found a way to net her third goal of the season to give the home side a 2-0 lead before the halftime whistle.
Regis was unable to put together many offensive attacks, but they did what they could against a team that was just a little sharper in their passing and execution. The Rangers were held to their lowest shot total of the season (5), one game after the set a single-game school record with 43 shots. The score remained 2-0 when the final whistle sounded, and the visitors walked off the field with only their second loss of the season.
Game Notes: Playing arguably their toughest game of the season so far, Regis managed to put two of their five shots on goal, but were still outshot by the Orediggers who managed 14 shots and seven shots on goal in the match. The Rangers did get three corner kick opportunities to only one of the home side, but they were unable to make anything of the chances. The two goals given up in the game are the most the team has given up in one game this season, which is a great credit to the defense they have exhibited in 2017.
Up Next for the Rangers: The women's soccer team will have a few days to reorganize before they match up with the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions this Friday, October 20 at 5 p.m. on the road. On October 22, the Blue and Gold will travel to Gunnison, Colorado to face the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers at 1 p.m. The final regular season game will be an October 28
th battle with cross-town rival Metropolitan State University Denver on the campus of the Roadrunners at 11 a.m.
