COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 16 ranked Regis University women's soccer team (11-2-2, 9-0-1 RMAC) took down the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (9-4-0, 7-2-0 RMAC) 2-1 on Friday evening.
How It Happened: Six fouls were called in the first 20 minutes of the contest, setting the stage for what would be a very exciting match. It was the Mountain Lions who netted the opening goal in the 22
nd minute when Tarah Patterson launched a long shot that beat goalkeeper
Julia Coombs to give the home side of Regis by one goal in the early going.
The resilient Rangers bounced back to life in the minutes after the goal, showing why they are the No. 16 ranked team in the nation. Senior
Cate Parchinski weaved through the UCCS defense on the left side, creating space and blasting her third goal of the season into the back of the net to bring the score even at one goal apiece.
With the score tied 1-1 coming out of halftime, the teams knew that the next goal might seal the win. The two team traded attacks but in the 63
rd minute it was a rebounded shot from freshman
Keegan Storlie that put RU ahead for the first time in the game, 2-1. Controlling their lead, Regis did not have as many shot attempts as the Mountain Lions who were desperate to find the equalizer. The Rangers stingy defense prevented that from ever happening and the team picked up their 11
th win of the season, beating a very difficult UCCS team 2-1.
Game Notes: Despite picking up the win, RU was outshot 11-8 in the match, but they held the Mountain Lions to only one shot on goal. Regis put five of their eight shots on goal, the corner kick tally was even at three apiece and there was not a single offside call in the full 90 minutes. Coombs faced 11 shots, giving up one goal for her 11
th win in between the posts. Storlie netted her first goal of the season which was also the game winner. Parchinski took a team-high three shots, recording her third goal of the season helping the team to victory.
Up Next for the Rangers: The women's soccer team will remain on the road as they travel to Gunnison, Colorado to face the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University on Sunday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
