Hohnstein and Parchinski lift No. 16 Regis over Western

GUNNISON, Colo. – The No. 16 ranked Regis University Rangers (12-2-2, 10-0-1) took care of the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University (4-8-2, 3-6-1 RMAC) 2-0 as Hohnstein and Parchinski each score a goal.

How It Happened: Regis came out and recorded five shots in the first 17:15 but it was the sixth shot that finally found the back of the net. Junior Bethany Hohnstein got a pass from senior Rikki Fix on the right side and drilled her shot into the left side netting. The goal gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

RU kept the momentum going as they moved back up the field in the 25th minute. This time it was Hohnstein delivering a ball to senior Cate Parchinski in the box who headed the ball into the goal for her fourth score of the season, putting Regis ahead by two goals in the first half.

The two goals in the first half were all the Rangers needed as the defense continued their great play, holding the Mountaineers scoreless for the full 90 minutes.

Game Notes: RU held a dramatic advantage in the shots department outshooting Western 27-8, allowing only two shots on goal while they put more than half of their shots on goal (14). The corner kick margin tilted in favor of the Blue and Gold 9-4 on a day that saw Regis display their dominance over the Mountaineers. Fix picked up her team-high sixth assist of the season while Hohnstein added one goal and one assist for three points on the day.

Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 16 ranked women's soccer team will close out their regular season with a road game against cross-town rival Metropolitan State University Denver on Saturday, October 28 at 11 a.m. before the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament begins on October 31.
