Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 21 Rangers extend their win-streak to five games with 2-0 win

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 21 ranked Regis University women's soccer team (8-1-2, 6-0-1 RMAC) went toe-to-toe with the Colorado State University – Pueblo ThunderWolves (4-5-1, 3-2-1 RMAC) on Friday afternoon, beating the visitors by a two-goal margin and shutting them out.

With the win, the team has won their fifth-straight game, extending their unbeaten streak to double-digits (10 games).

How It Happened: The first goal of the game came only 15 minutes into the opening half. Senior Lizzie Thometz delivered a through ball to fellow senior Rikki Fix who touched the ball forward and took a sliding shot that narrowly beat the keeper for an early 1-0 lead for the Rangers.

Minutes later, Fix found herself in the same situation going one-on-one with the keeper attempting the same shot but this time the charging goalkeeper saved it.

A lightning storm delayed the game for over 30 minutes but the teams finished the half and the Blue and Gold held a one-goal lead. The teams battled back and forth for twenty minutes before the next goal was scored. Senior Maggie Saras delivered a long ball to sophomore Sofia Garcia who composed herself, driving her shot past the keeper who could not react in time to stop RU from scoring their second goal of the game.

With a comfortable 2-0 lead, Regis slowed down their pace and began possessing the ball more than they did in the opening half. This helped limit opportunities for CSU-Pueblo who managed only two shots in the game. The match ended with a final score of 2-0 in favor of the home squad.

Game Notes: Fix recorded a game-high three shots and slotted home her second goal of the season, while Thometz tallied her first assist on the play. Garcia netted her fourth goal in the last two games for a team-high five goals on the season. Saras' assist on the play was her first of the year. The Rangers denied their opponents from putting even a single shot on goal during the full 90 minutes. RU combined to put five of their eight shots on goal, earning two corner kicks without conceding one to the ThunderWolves.

Up Next for the Rangers: The No.21 Rangers will return to the Regis Match Pitch on Sunday, October 8 as they turn their attention to the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls (3-5-2, 3-2-1 RMAC) for a match scheduled for 1 p.m.
