DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (2-0) picked up another win on Saturday afternoon, beating the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals (0-2) 89-74 for their second-straight win to open the season.
How it Happened: The visiting Chaparrals started the game with a 7-2 run, but back-to-back three-pointers from juniors
Jarrett Brodbeck and
Avonte Nelms gave Regis a one-point advantage with 15:10 on the clock. A couple minutes later, a huge 17-0 run put the Rangers in front 29-13 with a little more than seven minutes to go in the first half.
Coming out of the break, RU extended their 38-29 halftime lead to 13 points on a three-point basket from freshman
Tomas Auruskevicius, 51-38. LCU whittled away at the lead, cutting it to as little as five points 52-47, but Regis started firing on all cylinders again.
The Rangers opened up a 19-point margin when senior
Dexter Sienko nailed a shot from deep as the shot clock expired. RU cranked down on defense and continued their efficiency on offense for the remainder of the game. Auruskevicius hit a three-point jumper as the clock hit 1:14 that put the nail in the coffin. The game came to an end with Regis on top 89-74.
