Late-game runs doom the Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team succumbed to late-game runs dropping both games of doubleheader action against the Chadron State Eagles (9-11, 6-3 RMAC). In both games, the Rangers took an early lead never relinquishing control until late into the seventh innings.

Logan Losh led the Rangers offensively going 5-of-7 at the plate while recording a double, two RBIs and two runs. Bradey King added a 4-for-8 performance notching a double of her own while tallying two RBIs and one.

How It Happened | Game 1: The Rangers went ahead early on the Eagles bringing two across in the bottom of the first on a Losh two-RBI single up the middle. On two outs, in the bottom of the second, King gave Regis a 3-0 lead with a single that scored Melissa Heronema.

A pair of costly back-to-back errors by RU allowed Chadron State to put one on the board in the top of the fourth. The Eagles took their first lead of the game at 4-3 in the top of the seventh when Morgan Willhelm hit a three-run home run.

Carlie Sexton tried to give the Rangers life in the bottom half of the final inning with a single but could not match Chadron State's go-ahead run dropping the opening game of the series.

Game Notes: Losh pitched through all seven innings tallying five strikeouts on 31 batters faced. RU slightly outhit the Eagles 7-6 while leaving seven runners stranded. Losh led the Rangers going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. McGinn notched a double and Heronema recorded the only stolen base.

How It Happened | Game 2: Regis wasted no time surging offensively in the bottom half of the first inning kicked off by a three-run home run over the left field fence by McGinn. Losh followed it up with a single up the middle to be immediately brought across on another home run, this time a two-run shot from Lauren Hernandez which forced a pitching change from CSC. After one complete inning of play, the Rangers held a 5-0 lead over the Eagles.

???????Losh remained consistent at the plate opening the third inning up with a lead-off double. Laura Scheffel notched her fifth RBI of the season with a single through the left side that scored Losh to give RU a 6-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth from King and Emily John extended the Regis lead to 7-0.

The Eagles began to find some offensive momentum in the top of the sixth putting three on the board. A series of hits in the very next half inning completed the Chadron State comeback tying the score at 7-7. For the second-straight game, CSC took a late lead in the seventh on two-outs, bringing the winning run across the plate on a double to right center.
