Game Recap: Softball |

Softball bounces back, holds Chadron State scoreless

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team bounced back from yesterday's late-game losses to defeat the Chadron State Eagles (10-12, 6-5 RMAC) 2-0 and 8-0 in both games of the doubleheader to finish the series at a 2-2 split. The Rangers took early leads in both wins and held the Eagles scoreless in 13 innings of play.

Delaney McGinn paced the Rangers offensively going 3-for-7 at the plate with two RBIs. McGinn also added eight assists on the defensive side of the ball.

How It Happened | Game 1: Defense was strong for both squads until the bottom of the second when Emily John made things difficult for the Eagles left fielder. The error allowed runners from second and third to score to give Regis a 2-0 lead, which marks their third-straight early inning lead of the series.

Chadron State loaded the bases in the top of the third but Lauren Hernandez easily grounded the ball and stepped on third base to get RU out of the inning. The Rangers remained solid on the defensive side of the ball continuing to hold Chadron State scoreless throughout the entirety of the game.

The pair of runs in the bottom half of the second inning would be enough to lift the Rangers to their first victory of the series.

Game Notes: Logan Losh pitched in all seven innings allowing no runs, tallying five strikeouts to earn her fourth shutout on the season thus far. Both teams finished the game with six hits apiece. The Rangers left ten runners on base to the Eagles seven. Losh, McGinn, Macy Cox and Breana Pearsall all recorded a stolen base. Pearsall went 2-for-2 at the plate with one walk and a run. McGinn added a 2-for-3 offensive performance.

How It Happened | Game 2: For the fourth-straight game in this series, the Rangers took an early game lead at 5-0. John started everything off with a single to center field and advanced to second on a well-placed bunt by Bradey King. John was brought across the plate on a no-out double in the left center gap by Carlie Sexton.

On two-outs, Hernandez notched a double to left center of her own to score both King and Ca. Sexton. Cox drove in Hernandez with a stand-up triple and she came across the plate on a right fielder error. After just one inning of play, the Rangers controlled a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Pearsall reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. Pearsall moved to third on a ground out and King recorded the RBI with a sacrifice bunt to give the Rangers a 6-0 lead.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with help from a pair of Eagles errors. McGinn singled to left field scoring runners on second and third to enforce the eight-run rule and end the game early.

Game Notes: Losh pitched in all six innings earning her fifth shutout of the season giving up just two hits that came in the fifth and sixth innings.
