Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Strong defense propels No. 18 Rangers to 19-1 win

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The No. 18 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (5-0, 2-0 RMAC) finished their lengthy road trip with a 19-1 blowout win against the Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bison (2-3, 0-1 RMAC) on Saturday morning.

Eight Regis players scored two or more goals in the game led by three players who each had three goals apiece including freshman Ali Vanek (3 G, 2 A, 2 GB, 2 CT), sophomore Wendy Donier (3 G, 4 A, 1 GB, 2 CT), and sophomore Sarah Myres (3 G, 2 A).

How it Happened: For the second straight day, the Rangers got on the board first as freshman Andrea Macalalad netted the first and second goals of the game, giving RU an early 2-0 lead. The visitors kept rolling on offense all the way to an 11-1 lead in the first half.

Regis did not allow Oklahoma Baptist to score until the 7:24 mark in the first half, capping off a 56-minute stretch that the Rangers defense held their opponents scoreless dating back to yesterday's game against Rockhurst University.

The second half saw much of the same as the RU defense held their opposition scoreless in the second half for the second consecutive day. Junior Jada Bonner netted her second goal of the game to begin the period, as junior Rachel Walker tallied two goals and added an assist.

Myres put her playmaking skills on display as she dished out two assists and scored a goal in the second half. Myres' goal with 23 seconds left in the game sealed the deal on the 19-1 victory for Regis.

Game Notes: The Rangers dismantled the Lady Bison on both ends outshooting the home team 32-6 on the day. Their efficiency was great as 27 of their total shots were on goal. RU scooped up 21 ground balls, and dominated the draw control battle 14-7.

Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 18 ranked women's lacrosse team will return home next weekend to face the Adams State University Grizzlies on March 18 at 1 p.m. at the Regis Lacrosse Field.
