RU earns series split with 9-6 win on Sunday

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University baseball team (18-9, 11-5 RMAC) won 9-6 on Sunday afternoon to earn the 2-2 series split with the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys (10-17, 6-10 RMAC).

Five run fourth inning helped Regis hold off NMHU on Sunday in a series full of scoring. Junior Chris Kobar continued his hot streak going 3-of-5 from the plate with two RBI's.

How It Happened: The Rangers scored in their first set of at-bats, getting one run as senior Max Fabricant scored on a wild pitch from the pitcher. RU added another run in the top of the third as Kobar crossed the plate after an error by the Cowboys first-baseman.

Regis opened up for five runs in the top of the fourth inning as a single from Kobar scored two, a triple from Fabricant brought two more in, and a single from junior Christian Bitar extended the Rangers' lead to 7-0.

The home team began to chip away at the lead scoring one in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to cut the lead to one run, 7-6, with three innings left. RU got two insurance runs on a single to left center from junior Garrett Skillings that brought Fabricant and freshman Ryan Tierney in to score. The visitors held on for the 9-6 win, earning the 2-2 series split.
