DENVER, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (14-1, 8-0 RMAC) cruised past the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (6-6, 5-3 RMAC) 16-8 on Saturday afternoon.
Steiner ties a career-high for goals and points as five others score two or more goals in Rangers' 14
th win of the season.
How It Happened: Regis opened the game on a 5-0 run to take a quick lead after only four minutes of play. Five different players netted goals during the run that was capped off by an unassisted goal from sophomore
Sarah Myres.
FLC scored their first goal with 9:28 on the clock in the first half and found the back of the net two more times before halftime. The Rangers scored five goals in the final 11:33 of the opening half to take a 10-3 lead into the break.
Within the first four minutes of the second half, RU took their biggest lead of the game going up 13-3 on back-to-back goals from senior
Erin Steiner. The Skyhawks countered with two goals of their own, and the teams would trade goals for the remainder of the game. Senior
Anna Takushi, Myres and Steiner scored the final three goals of the game for Regis, coming away with the 16-8 win over the visitors.
Game Notes: The Rangers outshot FLC 31-21 but held only a narrow advantage 14-13 in the second half. RU put 25 of their 31 shot attempts on goal, limiting the Skyhawks to only 16. The turnover and ground ball battle tilted in favor of the visitors 16-18 and 25-22, respectively. The home team dominated the middle winning 19-7 on the day. Steiner led the way with four goals, tying a career-high, adding an assist and tying another career-high of five points on the day. Five others netted two goals apiece for Regis including junior
Jada Bonner who netted two goals and dished out two assists for four points, her second-highest single game point total of the season.
Freshman
Court Huston (W, 4-0) earned her fourth win of the season allowing four goals and making four saves in 40:23 between the pipes. Junior
Kenley Harrington maintained the same stat line, four goals against and four saves, in just under 20 minutes as the goalkeeper.
Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked women's lacrosse team will play their final two games of the regular season on the road as they travel to the home of No. 2 ranked Lindenwood University (13-0, 7-0 RMAC) on April 28 for their toughest matchup of the season. The regular season finale will be an April 30 battle with the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves (5-8, 2-5 RMAC) at 1 p.m. in Pueblo, Colo.
