DENVER, Colo. – The No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (17-2) won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship taking down the No. 2 ranked Lindenwood University Lions (20-1) 13-11 on Sunday afternoon.
Regis captured their second RMAC Tournament Championship in program history with the last one coming in 2014.
How it Happened: Regis came out firing as they needed only one minute to draw first blood and take a 1-0 lead. Lindenwood found a way to contain the Rangers after the goal and went on a 4-0 run to take a three-goal lead after five minutes of play.
RU managed to get two of those goals back to cut the lead to 3-4 five minutes later but the Lions scored another goal to go up by two goals again. Sophomore
Wendy Donier netted her second goal of the game with 13:27 on the clock to bring the home team within one goal once again.
The visitors went on another 4-0 run to extend their lead to 9-4, the biggest of the game. Regis responded with two goals to end the first half as the teams headed into halftime with Lindenwood ahead 9-6.
With the momentum swinging in favor of the Rangers, the team continued to fight and claw their way back. Senior

Jada Bonner scored back-to-back goals to start the second half and bring the score to 8-9 before the weather forced a minimum one-hour lightning delay.
When the teams finally took the field again, RU was determined to regain their momentum and they continued scoring goals until redshirt-senior
Erin Todd netted the game-tying ninth goal and junior
Rachael Walker gave Regis their first lead of the second half 10-9, but the team was not done there.
Steiner and Donier scored back-to-back goals giving the home squad their largest lead of the game 12-9 with 10:35 to go. The visitors netted a goal two minutes later but Todd countered with her third goal of the day less than two minutes later. The final goal of the game came for Lindenwood at the five-minute mark, but it was not enough as the Rangers held on to possession and closed out the 13-11 championship win.
Game Notes: Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP)
Wendy Donier recorded a game-high five points, scoring four goals and adding one assist and one ground ball in the game. Todd chipped in with three goals and an assist while Walker added two goals, one assist, four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Freshman
Court Huston (W, 7-1) came up with a huge came in the cage for RU making six massive saves in the full 60-minute game. Defensively, three players for Regis including Bonner (1 G, 3 GB, 4 CT) Steiner (2 G, 1 GB, 2 DC) and junior
Hailey Nyquist (3 GB) caused at least two turnovers. Regis outshot the Lions 33-21 and limited their turnovers to nine while forcing their opponents into committing 15. The home team also enjoyed an 18-10 advantage in the ground balls category.
Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 12 ranked Rangers will have earned the right to compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Tournament for the first time in program history. Regis was slotted as the No. 4 seed in the South region and will match up with No. 5 seed Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, May 12 at 6 p.m.
