Women's soccer records second-straight win

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team nabbed their second-straight win on the season defeating the University of California-San Diego Tritons 1-0.

How It Happened: The Rangers settled in after the opening minutes connecting passes on the ground as they saw their first dangerous opportunity in the 13th minute. Bethany Hohenstein looked to finish on a cross played near the top of the six.

After four more shot attempts from RU, the go-ahead goal was netted in the 41st minute. Annika Hills put her head on the end of a cross from the left side by Emily Ramos to score her second goal on the season.

The Rangers kept pressing at the start of the second half as Rikki Fix put one on frame on a through ball in the 53rd minute. Julia Coombs kept the Tritons looking for the tying goal making a diving reaction save in the 61st minute.

Once again, in the 76th minute, Coombs pushed a laced ball from distance up and over the cross bar to hold the visitors scoreless. As the time continued to tick off the clock, play on the field heightened between both squads. The Rangers held off to record their first shutout victory of the season.

Game Notes: The Tritons produced more shot attempts, 13-9, but the Rangers slightly outshot the opponents 6-5 in shots on goal. Corner kicks finished up at four apiece. Coombs recorded five saves in all 90 minutes played to tally her second shutout on the season. Fix led with four shots and two on goal.
