Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

RU tames CCU 3-0, earning third-straight win

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (3-1-1, 1-0 RMAC) picked up their third consecutive victory with a 3-0 pummeling of the Colorado Christian University Cougars (3-3, 0-1 RMAC) in their conference opener.

How It Happened: Play started out a bit rocky at the beginning for both squads but it was the Rangers that were first to settle in and connect passes. Regis controlled the ball and tempo throughout the remainder of the first half finding the first goal in the 20th minute. Rikki Fix had a one-time finish into the back of the net on a cross from the right side by Sofia Garcia.

RU continued pressing the Cougars outshooting the visitors 7-2 in the first half. Colorado Christian saw their first two corner kicks in the final minutes of the half as Regis headed into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Early into the start of the second half, Tori Rinsem gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead finishing with her left foot on a short, flat pass in the box from Fix. Garcia drew a penalty kick towards the top of the box late in the 88th minute. Kate Parchinski, in her first minutes as a Ranger, stepped up and drove home the third goal of the game.

Game Notes: RU records their second-straight shutout victory to begin conference play 1-0 and move to an overall record of 3-1-1. Regis outshot Colorado Christian 10-7 putting five shots on goal to CCU's three. Goals by Fix, Rinsem and Parchinski are the first of the season for each. Rinsem led with three shots, two on frame and Akina Fujimoto added two of her own. Julia Coombs recorded all 90 minutes of action and recorded three saves on seven shots faced for her third shutout of the season.

Next Up for the Rangers: The women's soccer team will host the No. 18 ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (3-1, 0-0 RMAC) on Sunday, September 17 at 1 p.m. in a highly anticipated match between two conference juggernauts.
