DURANGO, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (4-1-2, 2-0-1 RMAC) made the journey to Fort Lewis College (1-4-1, 1-2-0 RMAC) to face the Skyhawks and came away winners of the 1-0 game in which redshirt-junior
Cat Devitt notched her first goal of the season.
The win adds to the six-game unbeaten streak for the team as they have either won or tied each of their last six contests, including a win and tie against ranked opponents.
How It Happened: The teams tested each other with their attack early on but it was Regis who was controlling most of the chances as they put three shots on goal in the first 26 minutes, and five of six on goal in the first half. The defense went 29:33 without allowing a shot from the Skyhawks who managed to take only two shots in the first 45 minutes. Senior
Rikki Fix, junior
Sydney DeVries and sophomore
Tori Rinsem each registered one shot apiece in the first half.
The Rangers continued to press forward with the offense and they quickly laced another four shots in the first 12 minutes of the second half. In the 73
rd minute, RU earned a corner kick and capitalized. As the ball carried through the air it deflected off a defender and rolled to Devitt who shot from the top of the box and secured her first goal of the season to give Regis a 1-0 lead with less than 16 minutes to play in the match.
Game Notes: Regis held a major advantage on the offensive and defensive end outshooting FLC 14-5 in the match. The visitors had a 4-1 tilt in the corner kick category while also withholding the home team from putting a single shot on goal for the entire 90-minute scrum. Fix and senior
Akina Fujimoto led the way with three shots apiece, with both putting two on frame. Devitt took one shot and notched her first goal of the season which turned out to be the game-winner in the 1-0 road victory.
Up Next for the Rangers: The women's soccer team is in the middle of a three-game road trip that will continue on Sunday, September 24 with a game against the Grizzlies of Adams State University at 2:30 p.m. The final game of the conference road trip will be a head-to-head match with the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m.
