Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Regis dismantle Grizzlies on the way to a 4-0 win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (5-1-2, 3-0-1 RMAC) extended their unbeaten streak to seven-straight with a 4-0 dismantling of the Adams State University Grizzlies (1-4-2, 0-3-1 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened: Both teams came out of the gates looking to attack early and often. Regis quickly earned three corner kicks within the first 8:51 of play. None of the set pieces amounted to any goals. A little less than 10 minutes later, freshman Natasha Wehner struck a ball that beat the keeper on the left for her first goal of the season.

With a 1-0 lead, the Rangers settled in and controlled the pace of the match. Sophomore Emily Ramos subbed into the game in the 30th minute and no more than 1:13 seconds later, she sent a cross in that connected with senior Maggie Saras who headed the ball into the net for RU's second goal before halftime.

The two goal differential remained at the beginning of the second half, but Regis was far from finished with their game plan. As they continued to pressure the Grizzlies defense Saras once again collected a ball from a deflection and blasted it past the keeper for her second goal of the game putting the Rangers ahead by three goals in the 63rd minute.

Junior Bethany Hohnstein got in on the action as she worked with senior Cate Parchinski to engineer a breakaway. Hohnstein finished her shot in the bottom left of the goal for her first score of the season, allowing RU to sit back with a comfortable 4-0 until the final whistle sounded.

Game Notes: Regis did a masterful job preventing ASU from creating any real offensive chances limiting them to only four shots on the day and zero shots on goal. The Rangers relentless offensive pressure led to 13 shots (6 SOG), and eight corner kicks. This is the highest output for RU since they scored four goals against the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (10/23/16) last season. Saras and Hohnstein each had a team-high three shots in the game with Hohnstein scoring two, and Saras netting one. Ramos and Parchinski each tallied an assist in the win.

Next Up for the Rangers: Regis, who now sits at the top of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) standings will face the Colorado Mesa University (5-3, 2-1 RMAC) in Grand Junction on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Two days later, the ladies will return to their home pitch for a match against the Westminster College Griffins (4-4, 1-2 RMAC) on September 29 at noon.
