Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rinsem scores in the 85th minute to lift Rangers over Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (6-1-2, 4-0-1 RMAC) stunned the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (5-4-0, 2-2-0) in the final five minutes of their matchup Friday night, winning the game 1-0 as sophomore Tori Rinsem netted the game-winner in the 85th minute.

How It Happened: Most of the game was played with the score deadlocked 0-0 thanks to great defending from each team. Regis fought hard for the edge, and out of eight total shots in the first half, the Rangers took six.

The second half was more competitive as the teams combined for six total shots, with RU taking four and limiting CMU to only two. The Mavericks Halie Bergeron was issued a red card in the 83rd minute and that proved to be a pivotal moment in the match as Regis quickly attacked the outnumbered squad.

Rinsem who, coincidentally, took the first shot of the match also took the last shot of the match. However, unlike the first shot that sailed over the goal, the sophomore unleashed a shot that found the back of the net in the 85th minute to break the silence and give Regis the 1-0 lead.

The Rangers defense tightened even further and the team stymied any opportunity that the home squad hoped to create as time ticked down. RU closed out the game and earned their third-straight victory while also extending their unbeaten streak to eight-straight games.

Game Notes: Senior Cate Parchinski had a game-high three shots in the game while Rinsem added two shots including the game-winning goal. Regis outshot CMU 11-4, but the corner kick battle finished at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. Freshman goalkeeper Julia Coombs faced four total shots, recording one save and picking up her sixth shutout of the year.

Up Next for the Rangers: After wrapping up their three-game road trip, the women's soccer team will return home for their second four-game home stand of the year. The next game will take place on the Regis Match Pitch when the Westminster College Griffins (4-5, 1-3 RMAC) make a visit on Sunday, October 1 at noon.
