GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 14 ranked Regis University volleyball team (11-1, 3-0 RMAC) swept the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (8-3, 2-1 RMAC) 3-0, handing the home team their sixth home loss in the last four seasons.
The win marks the sixth-straight win for Regis, which is the second time the Rangers have had a win streak of five or more games this season. The other was a five-game win streak to begin the 2017 season.
How It Happened: The first set saw RU put together a few late runs to come back and stun the Mavericks. Trailing 14-9 in the opening set, RU responded with three-straight points to bring the score within two points, but the home squad extended their lead to 21-16 a few minutes later. Regis began chipping away and four-straight points brought the score to 20-21 in favor of CMU. The Rangers took a 24-22 lead on a kill from senior

Nikki Kennedy put the set away with a kill to give RU the 25-23 win in the first set.
Regis found themselves in a hole once again in the second set 11-13, but the Rangers rattled off seven-straight points to take a 19-14 lead before CMU stopped the run. Freshman
Caitlyn Burroway pummeled the game-winning kill off a blocker to give the visitors the 25-20 win and a 2-0 set lead.
The third set had another huge run from RU, however this time the run started with RU already ahead 10-9. Eight straight points put Regis ahead 18-9 when sophomore
Kelsey Green and Kennedy combined for three consecutive kills before the Mavericks finally reached double-digits. At 23-15, junior
Kristen Hornung bounced her ninth kill of the match to bring it to match point. Hornung then connected with Burroway for the final point of the match, lifting the Rangers 25-20 over CMU for a 3-0 sweep.
Game Notes: When the team managed to dig out serves and attacks, they were highly efficient combining on a .386 attack percentage, with only six total errors on 88 total attacks. Green led all RU players with 10 kills and zero attach errors. Kennedy and Hornung had nine kills and four block assists apiece while Kennedy adding two solo blocks in the match. Redshirt-junior

Silvia Basso picked up 34 assists on the night. 14 service errors plagued the team, but they managed to remain level-headed and made runs when they needed to, resulting in an impressive 3-0 win over the Mavericks who have only six home losses in the last four seasons.
