For Regis outside hitter
Kelsey Green, the term
sophomore slump is a foreign one. The Elkhorn, NE native has been having her way at the net all season, and Tuesday night in Chadron was no different. A pivotal part of the night's 3-1 RMAC road win, Green unleashed for 19 kills (with only two errors in 41 attempts) and three blocks. The effort marked the best of the season for Green, who totaled 21.5 of Regis' 74 points.
Â
Of course, it takes a team to make anything great happen, and Tuesday's showing in Chadron was evidence of that. Sophomore
Nikki Kennedy dominated from the middle, tallying ten kills and ten blocks in her first double-double of the year, while libero
Kristina Schell put in her best four-set effort of the season with 18 digs.
Â
After dropping the first set (31-29) to the home Eagles, Regis roared back to take set two in impressive fashion. Their 25-11 win put the Rangers firmly in the driver's seat, with the visitors committing just one miscue on their way to a .350 kill clip. RU's offensive dominance was on display in the third – the Rangers totaled 20 kills in a head-turning .515 team effort. With the tone set for the night Regis cruised to a 25-19 win to take the match in four – their 13
th victory of the season.
Â
Though just one kill separated the squads' totals on the night, it was the offensive efficiency of the Rangers that tipped the scales. RU's attack proved potent (52 kills, 15 errors), while Chadron struggled in a 51-kill, 36-error effort.
Â
With the win, the 11
th-ranked Rangers remain atop the RMAC with a perfect 5-0 record, while Chadron drops to 1-4 in league play. Regis' road stretch continues through the weekend – the Rangers will travel to Westminster for a Saturday afternoon match. The Griffins enter the contest with a 4-8 overall record, 1-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
