Schell joins elite company as Regis sinks Black Hills State on Senior Night

DENVER, Colo. – On senior night, the Regis University volleyball team (16-8, 12-3 RMAC) stung the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets (7-15, 4-11 RMAC) to the tune of a three set win, 25-14, 25-16, 25-11.

How It Happened: Regis picked up right where they left off from the night before, unloading for a massive .467 attack percentage in the opening set, with zero attack errors on 27 attempts. Junior Izzy Gosar led the way with six kills in the opening frame, adding three blocks on the defensive end as well. Sophomore Caitlyn Burroway and junior Nikki Kennedy added three kills apiece in set one as the Rangers rolled to a 25-14 win. Senior libero, Kristina Schell, became only the fifth player in program history to surpass 1,500 digs in a career.

The second set saw RU hit a match-low .263, but behind the consistent offense of Burroway and Gosar Regis pulled away with a 25-16 set two win. Burroway had five kills and Gosar added four in the second set.

The third set was, once again, all Rangers as they posted a .367 attack percentage as a team. This time it was Kennedy who led the squad with four kills in the frame, tacking on two blocks at the net. The team combined for five total blocks in the set, finishing with 11 total for the match. RU never looked back in set three, cruising to a 25-11 win and their second-consecutive three-set sweep.

Game Notes: Gosar was the match leader with 13 kills, a .476 attack percentage and six total blocks, while Burroway notched double-digit kills (11) as well. Kennedy accounted for nine kills and had a solid .467 attack percentage to go along with four blocks. Defensively, redshirt-senior Drew Rhamy led the way with 13 digs while senior Kristina Schell followed with nine. With her nine digs, Schell became only the fifth member of the 1,500 digs club in program history. Junior setter Silvia Basso outdid her performance from the night before, posting 37 assists to give her 72 through her last two matches. The final hitting clip for the Rangers totaled .360 with 45 kills on 100 attacks and nine errors.

Up Next for the Rangers: The volleyball team will be back on their home court on Tuesday, October 23rd when they host their cross-town rivals, the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners, for a match at 7 p.m.
