DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (8-6-3, 7-5-1 RMAC) was downed 3-1 by the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (14-2-1, 12-1-0 RMAC) on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened: Regis failed to capitalize on a golden scoring opportunity, missing just wide, 22 seconds into the match. From there, they were forced to play on their defensive side of the field as UCCS had three corners in a span of five minutes.
The Mountain Lions third corner kick resulted in their first goal at the 12:09 mark. Before the Rangers could get their own look at goal, UCCS stretched their lead to two with a break-away goal in the 23
rdminute.
RU pulled within one before the first half commenced. Senior
Cat Devitt headed home her fifth goal of the season off a cross from junior
Tori Rinsem in the 36
thminute of play.
A third UCCS goal sealed the deal in the second half. The Mountain Lions' attacked slotted the ball into the corner of the goal from inside the six-yard box with 30 minutes remaining in the game.
Game Notes: Regis was held to just 10 total shots and six on target compared to 16 total shots and seven on target for UCCS. Devitt scored her fifth goal of the season, giving her 11 points and Rinsem added to her point total (15) with her assist.
