DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (6-4-0, 5-3-2 RMAC) suffered a 2-1 blow from Colorado State University – Pueblo (7-3-1, 4-3 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened: Regis wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 advantage in the first minute of play. Sophomore
Keegan Storlie, who was on the receiving end of a corner-kick played in by junior
Emily Ramos, placed her header in the bottom right corner of the goal.
The Rangers out-shot the ThunderWolves 4-1 in the first half, but neither team could find a way to beat the opposing keeper and RU held their 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The ThunderWolves tied the game at one apiece, in the 49
thminute, on their first attacking opportunity of the second half. They went on to record eight more shot-attempts in the half, placing three of them on target.
Regis surrendered the game-winning goal in the waning minutes of the game. In the 83
rdminute, a CSU-P attacker took a strike from just inside the 18-yard-box, lifting it over sophomore
Julia Coombs into the top-shelf of the goal.
With 57 seconds remaining in regulation, junior
Tori Rinsem had the last look at goal for the Rangers but was unable to slip it past the keeper.
Game Notes: RU tallied 11 total shots with seven on frame while the ThunderWolves had 10 attempts with four on target.
Storlie's goal was her second of the season and Ramos added to her assist-total and now has eight, the most of any player in the RMAC.
Regis held the corner-kick advantage 4-1. Coombs contributed two saves.
