DENVER, Colo. – The No. 19 ranked Regis University men's basketball team (2-1) shot 48.3 percent from the field to defend their home court 91-78 over Stanislaus State (3-1) on Saturday afternoon. The game marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
How it Happened: The Rangers found themselves down by four before senior
Jarrett Brodbeck knocked-down the teams' first bucket of the contest, narrowing the deficit to 4-5 with 18 first-half minutes to play. Sophomore
Brian Dawson assisted Brodbeck on his second three-pointer in the opening four minutes. The triple gave
RU their first lead of the game, 9-7.
Regis lost their lead, but only for 16 seconds. Junior
Taffy Tela hit his first three of the game, giving the Rangers a 12-10 edge at the 4:28 mark of the game. RU never looked back and allowed Stanislaus no hope through the remainder of the game.
Three-point shooting helped Regis extend their lead throughout the opening half. They drilled 9-of-18 from beyond the arch to take a 50-43 lead going into halftime.
The Rangers went on a 9-0 run over a span of a minute and a half to take a 70-56 lead. The run featured two layups by junior
Christian Little, a Brodbeck triple, and two made free-throws by senior
Ryan Beisty.
The largest lead of the game was 15, coming on two separate occasions. The latter was with 50 second left to play and came by way of two Little free-throws.
RU outscored the Warriors 41-35 in the second half to secure their 91-78 victory.
Game Notes: Brodbeck (9-16, 6-10 3PT) lead all scorers with 24 points. Little (4-11) and Beisty (3-7, 2-4 3PT) each had 14 points. Little secured a double-double with 11 boards while Beisty added 10 rebounds for a double-double of his own.
Regis cored 26 points in the paint, 22 fast break points, eight second chance points, and the bench contributed 24.
Little and Dawson both recorded seven assists as the team totaled 19.
