Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Roadrunners Outpace Rangers 58-50

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team was knocked off 58-50 by Metropolitan State University of Denver this evening at the Regis Fieldhouse. This is the first time since 2014 that the Rangers have opened conference action 0-2.

How it Happened: Coming off a two-game winning streak, the Roadrunners were eager to extend their stretch and took an early 5-3 advantage. Majestie Robinson sunk the Rangers' first five points before Jaz'Myne Snipes contributed a lay-up to make the score 11-7 going into the second period.

Regis held MSU-Denver scoreless for the opening three minutes of the second quarter and behind baskets from Whitney Jacob and Emma Sterkel managed to tie the contest at 14 apiece. With 2:55 on the clock, the Roadrunners began to pull away from RU, eventually taking a 30-24 lead at the start of halftime.

The Rangers battled to pull within two of MSU-Denver in the third period as Shelby Espinosa muscled through contact to finish at the rim and earn the extra point at the charity stripe. They would still trail by four, 38-34, heading into the fourth.

Coming off the bench for Regis, Emma Sterkel provided some much needed momentum for the Rangers, adding eight points off a pair of 3-pointers and a lay-up. However, as the Roadrunners maintained an advantage that would eventually swell to as many as 13 points, it would not be enough to rally RU and they suffered a second RMAC loss.

Game Notes: Regis finished the game shooting 26.9 percent (14-for-52) from the floor while going 5-of-27 from behind the arc. They combined for 81.0 percent at the free-throw line. The Rangers bested MSU-Denver in rebounds, pulling down 37 compared to The Roadrunners 34.

Robinson paced Regis with 15 points and four assists. Sterkel followed with 11 points, going 50 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range, while Snipes tallied nine points. Espinosa snagged a team-high 11 rebounds in addition to three blocks and as many steals.

Next Up for the Rangers: RU continues their schedule tomorrow as they welcome Chadron State to the Regis Fieldhouse for a 3:00 PM contest.
