Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quartet of Rangers Give Double-Digit Performances as Regis Takes Down Chadron State 81-68

DENVER, Colo. – After a pair of losses, the Regis University women's basketball team bounced back with a dominating victory this afternoon, routing Chadron State College 81-68 at the Regis Fieldhouse.

How it Happened: The Rangers struggled to connect throughout the first half of action, posting just 28.9 percent on 11-for-38 shooting from the floor. Chadron State took advantage of Regis' miscues, constructing a 9-0 run that gave them an 11-5 edge. Buckets from Emma Sterkel and Jaz'Myne Snipes helped keep the Rangers within striking distance but the Eagles would still hold a 21-15 lead going into the second period.

Regis continued to shoot poorly in the second quarter but fought to combat the deficit that had accumulated. On her way to a team-high 24 points, Snipes strung together back-to-back layups before Morgan Ducklow capped the half with a 3-pointer, making the score 33-29.

A new team came out of the locker-room for Regis after the break as they outscored the Eagles 26-11. Elly Walters and Shelby Espinosa combined for seven points to kick off the start of the third period before Snipes drained a basket from 3-point range. Espinosa made her presence known defensively on the court as she pulled down six of her 12 rebounds en route to a Ranger 56-46 lead going into the fourth.

RU refused to take their foot of the accelerator in the fourth. Alex Nelson netted eight of Regis' first 11 points before Sterkel knocked down a three to put the Rangers up 13. Walters chimed in again with a layup at the 1:11 minute mark and Snipes notched another five points to seal the contest 81-68.

Game Notes: Leading the way for Regis was Snipes, shooting 10-for-12 from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point land for 24 points. Walters pitched in 14 points and Nelson and Ducklow both tallied 13 points apiece. Nelson added two steals and two blocks while Espinosa grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

Collectively, the Rangers were able to improve their shooting percentage, finishing at 44.3 percent, going 31-for-70. Regis crushed Chadron in rebounds by a margin of 44-34 while limiting themselves to just nine turnovers compared to the Eagles' 14.

Next Up for the Rangers: Regis hits the road next weekend as they travel to games against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on December 15 and Colorado School of Mines on the 16th. Game times are set for 3:00 PM and 1:00 PM.
