COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team improved their record to 6-3, 2-2 RMAC, this afternoon as they easily defeated the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 54-44 on the road.
How it Happened: The Mountain Lions struck early and often in the opening minutes of the contest, taking a 10-7 lead at one point. UCCS would not be in control for long, however, as
McKenna Bishop and
Whitney Jacob sunk back-to-back buckets from 3-point range to help put RU up 16-10.
Jaz'Myne Snipes opened the second period with another three-pointer, jumpstarting a 9-0 Ranger run. RU's defense held UCCS scoreless through the first six minutes of action and forced the Mountain Lions to commit eight turnovers. On 2-for-13 shooting from the floor, UCCS earned just three more buckets in the remaining time and would trail Regis 31-16 going into the half.
On her way to a team-high 11 points, Jacob pulled up to sink a jumper from the floor before Espinosa and Robinson added another pair of baskets, giving Regis a 39-24 edge. Bishop went on to drain a second trey and Robinson followed with a three of her own, increasing the distance to 22 points.
In the fourth, Snipes and
Elly Walters chipped in layups for the only two Regis field goals of the quarter. UCCS managed to outscored the Rangers 16-4, but RU would still come out on top with the 54-44 victory.
Game Notes: Regis shot 31 percent from the floor, on 18-of-58 shooting. They would finish with a 27.3 three-point percentage and go 12-for-19 at the charity stripe. UCCS outrebounded RU 41-36 but would suffer a staggering 25 turnovers compared to the Rangers' 14.
