Rangers drop final game of four-game series 3-0 to No. 7 LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Regis University baseball team (3-1) ended their four-game series against No. 7 Lubbock Christian University with a 3-0 loss on Sunday.

How It Happened: LCU got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a hit to the short stop that ended in a run crossing home plate. Regis went three-up three-down throughout the first three innings.

Junior Connor Rochon recorded the first hit for the Rangers with an infield single in the fourth. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch but was not able to make it any further before the inning was retired.

The Chaparrals extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on three hits. Senior Andrew Bryniarski got the second RU hit in the top of the seventh with a single up the middle. He advanced to third base on two errors but was left on base at the conclusion of the inning.

Sophomore Coby Zimmerman added the third hit for Regis by lacing double to left field with one out in the eighth. The very next pitch made its way to the back-stop and Zimmerman reached third safely. LCU struck out the next two batters respectively and Zimmerman was left stranded.

Down 3-0 going into the ninth, the Rangers had one more opportunity to get on the scoreboard, but they were retired 1-2-3.

Game Notes: RU managed three total hits on Sunday. Zimmerman and Bryniarski went 1-for-3 from the plate and Rochon was 1-for-4. Regis left all three runners on base. Junior Matt Heibult (0-1) picked up the loss after giving up the first run in the first inning. He pitched a total of 3.2 innings and allowed six hits and 3 earned runs. The junnior was able to strike out two batters. The Rangers pitching staff gave up a total of 10 hits.
