CHADRON, Neb. – The Regis University men's basketball team (20-5, 14-5 RMAC) survived a tough road test from the Chadron State College Eagles (3-23, 1-19 RMAC), outlasting the home team 73-67 on Tuesday night.
How It Happened: Regis overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to complete the comeback and extend their current win-streak to eight-straight games.
CSC took a 34-20 lead into the halftime break, holding the Rangers to their lowest output in a single half this season. The deficit reached as much as 22 points, 42-20, before RU was finally able to regroup. A 15-0 scoring run from Regis got them back into the game at 35-42, capped off by a three-pointer from freshman
Brian Dawson.
The Rangers took their first lead of the second half with a trifecta from junior
Jarrett Brodbeck with just under 11 minutes left in the half. It was sophomore
Christian Little (14 points), junior
Avonte Nelms (13 points) and senior
Ty McGee (13 points) who combined for 40 points in the second half that helped Regis position themselves for a much-needed road win.
In the final 1:19, the Rangers went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, closing out the 73-67 win in a game that challenged the team's character.
Game Notes: McGee (4-5 FG, 9-11 FT, 6 REB, 4 AST) finished with a team-high 17 points, while Little (14 PTS, 3-7 FG, 8-8 FT, 5 REB, 2 AST) and Nelms (13 PTS, 4-7 FG, 4-6 3-pt, 3 STL) scored all of their points in the second half. RU shot 37 percent from the floor, their second-lowest shooting percentage in a win this season. The win marks the second-straight 20-win season for head coach
