Game Recap: Softball |

Softball completes weekend sweep, wins 6-3, 10-6

DENVER, Colo. –  Regis softball (5-7) completed the weekend sweep over Adams State (3-9) winning 6-3 and 10-6 in Sunday's doubleheader games.
 
How It Happened | Game 1: The Rangers started the day on a positive note going three up three down at the top of the first. RU left the first inning scoreless stranding two on base.
 
Adams State was first to cross home scoring one off a double to right center.
 
The Grizzlies were able to tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth while Regis remained scoreless.
 
The Rangers had an answer in the bottom of the fourth. Delaney McGinn singled up the middle for a base hit. Lauren Hernandez walked advancing McGinn to second. Melissa Heronema found a hole in center field earning a base hit and worked her way around to third on an error by the center fielder. McGinn crossed home off of the hit and Hernandez made her way around off the error to bring Regis within one, 3-2. Heronema stole home to tie it all up at three.
 
RU put up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Analece Apodaca got things going with a single to left field. Breana Pearsall came in to pinch run and stole second. McGinn reached base on a walk. With runners on first and second, Hernandez put a ball into play and reached first on an error by the short stop. Pearsall and McGinn both crossed home plate giving Regis a 5-3 advantage. Heronema followed with a solo shot scoring Hernandez for the final RU lead, 6-3.
 
Game Notes: Heronema led with three hits while Apodaca added two more. Hernandez and McGinn accounted for two runs each. As a team, Regis had nine hits, two errors and left six stranded on base. Logan Losh controlled the mound for all seven innings. Losh faced 28 batters, striking out six. She allowed three runs on only four hits.
 
How It Happened | Game 2: Regis jumped out to a quick lead at the start of the second game. Jaiden Johnson singled up the middle in the first at bat. She stole second as Emily John was at the plate. John doubled into center field to score Johnson and give the Rangers the 1-0 lead.
 
Breana Pearsall pinch ran for John and reached second on a ground out from Analece Apodaca. Tori Brown made it to first on a fielding error which allowed Pearsall to cross home for the second score of the game.
 
The Grizzlies didn't have an answer before RU laid on a few more runs in the bottom of the second. Erica Mann kicked off the inning with a walk and Michelle Larose was put in to pinch run. Johnson singled to third base to score Larose, and Pearsall followed with a single up the middle to score Johnson.
 
With a 4-0 lead, Pearsall stole second and Apodaca singled to center field to advance her to third. Laura Scheffel subbed in to run for Apodaca and stole second. Brown singled through the left side to score Pearsall and bring Scheffel to third. RU jumped to a 6-0 lead when McGinn singled to center field scoring Scheffel and moving Brown to second. Heronema followed with a three RBI double. Johnson singled to center field scoring Heronema for the final run of the inning.
 
Adams State scored their first runs in the top of the fourth inning bringing it to 10-3.
 
The score remained the same until the top of the sixth when the Grizzlies brought two more across the plate and pulled within five runs to Regis.

Adams State made one final attempt in the top of the seventh. They managed one run to end the game 10-6. 
 
Game Notes: The Rangers scored ten runs on 13 hits and eight RBIs. They had two errors. Pearsall and Johnson accounted for two runs each. Johnson had two hits and McGinn three. Heronema led with three RBIs. Taylor Armitage earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings. She threw two strikeouts and allowed four runs on eight hits. Rachel Jones pitched 1.1 innings facing six batters and allowing two runs on two hits.
 
Next Up For The Rangers: Regis travels to Colorado Springs to face the Mountain Lions of UCCS next weekend, February 24 and 25. First pitch is scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.
