Yellow Jackets sting the Rangers 69-53 on senior night

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team (15-12, 14-8 RMAC) dropped their final regular season game 69-53 to Black Hills State University (22-6, 16-6 RMAC) on Saturday night.
 
How It Happened: Junior Majestie Robinson scored a three-pointer on that gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead on their first offensive possession. A layup by junior Shelby Espinosa put RU ahead 9-5, their largest lead of the first quarter, with 7:12 remaining to play in the quarter. Sophomore McKenna Bishop converted a layup as time expired and Black Hills State held a 17-16 advantage heading into the second quarter.  
 
The Yellow Jackets outscored Regis 17-8 in the second quarter and ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 34-24 halftime lead.
 
A fast-break layup by senior Chante Church pulled the Rangers within six (38-32), the closest they would get to the Yellow Jackets, with 5:46 left to play in the third. From there, Black Hills State went on a 9-0 run over the next 3:30. RU trailed by as many as 18 (51-33) in the quarter.
 
Both teams were able to score 18 fourth quarter points and Regis was never able to get within 10.
 
Game Notes: Freshman Whitney Jacob led the Rangers with 16 total points (6-10 FG, 1-1 3-PT). Bishop scored a career-high 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point land. RU shot just 29.7 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from long-range.
 
The Yellow Jackets made it tough on Regis, making 54.3 percent of their shots and 22.2 percent from downtown.
 
Jacob and Espinosa each had a game-high eight rebounds. Rangers out-rebounded Black Hills 40-33. RU's 25 offensive rebounds lead to 16 second-chance point
 
Regis committed 14 turnovers leading to 19 Yellow Jacket points, while creating 13 turnovers for 12 points.  
 
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University women's basketball team will play in the first round of the RMAC tournament Tuesday evening. Time, location and opponent are yet to be determined.
