Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

McGee leads Rangers past CCU for fifth-straight win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Following a buzzer-beating win against a top-five team in the conference, the Regis University men's basketball team (17-5, 11-5 RMAC) took care of the Colorado Christian University Cougars (4-18, 3-13 RMAC) 87-79 on Saturday night.

How It Happened: Regis put together a very dominant performance throughout the game, but the first half featured solid performances from senior Ty McGee (11), redshirt-sophomore DeAndre Johnson (8) and freshman Brian Dawson (8). The trio combined for 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, leading to a 49-34 halftime lead.

The second half played more into the favor of the home team. After the Rangers opened up a 19-point lead, the tide started to turn against RU as the Cougars cut the lead to three points, 77-73, with a little more than four minutes left in the game.

McGee recorded back-to-back dunks, and sophomore Christian Little added a layup that help put Regis back in front by eight points, 84-76 to calm the nerves of the visitors. With the clock ticking down under 10 seconds, junior Jarrett Brodbeck poked the ball away and turned the steal into two points on the other end. The layup put the game out of reach 87-79 and the Rangers came away victorious.

Game Notes: McGee (1-3 3-pt, 6-7 FT) scored a team-high 25 points, coming against his former team, on a very efficient 9-of-15 from the floor. Senior Dexter Sienko (4-11 FG, 4-6 FT) chipped in with 12 points and swatted three shots on the defensive end to bring his conference-leading total to an even 50 on the season. Sienko and McGee each had eight rebounds to lead the squad

The final numbers for each team were 31-68 FG (45.6 percent) for RU and 25-56 FG (44.6 percent) for CCU. The home team hit on 9-of-20 attempts (45 percent) from deep while the visitors only made 5-of-23 attempts (21.7 percent). Despite being outrebounded 41-34, Regis turned up the defense forcing 22 turnovers that led to 28 points on the offensive end.

Up Next for the Rangers: The lengthy road trip finally comes to a close for the men's basketball team as they will return home for two games next weekend. The first will be a rematch with the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The following night will be a battle with cross-town rival Metropolitan State University of Denver on Saturday at 7 p.m.
