Game Recap: Softball |

Softball takes two from Chadron State on Sunday afternoon

CHADRON, Neb. – Timely hitting and solid pitching performances guided the Regis softball team to two road victories over Chardon State on Sunday. Regis' fifth-straight victory pushed their record to 14-8 overall and 9-1 in RMAC play.

How It Happened | Game 1: Pitcher Logan Losh (W, 7-4) turned in an outstanding performance and the offense scored three runs late in the game to secure a 3-0 victory over the Eagles.

Losh held CSC to just three hits over seven innings. She worked around two errors in the third inning to keep the game scoreless and maneuvered past a bases-loaded threat to end the game.

The Rangers' scoring came in the top of the sixth inning as Tori Brown, Emily John and Lauren Hernandez tallied RBI singles. Jaiden Johnson and Melissa Heronema started off the inning with singles and came around to score.

Chardon loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Losh was able to get Kayla Michel to fly to right for the final out.

Game Notes: Losh picked up her seventh win on the year. She struck out three and walked two, while throwing 96 pitches. Johnson, Brown and Hernandez lead the Rangers with two hits. Heronema's eight-game stolen base streak ended. All the game's 13 hits were singles.

How It Happened | Game 2: RU rallied in the second game of the doubleheader and scored three times late for a 3-2 extra-inning victory.

Trailing by a run, Regis capitalized on a fielding error that allowed Jaiden Johnson to move up to third after she singled to center field. Ana Apodaca singled through the right side to bring Johnson home and tie the game at 1-1.

The Rangers would take the lead in the seventh on a home run by Lauren Hernandez to lead off the inning. The Eagles fought back to tie the game on an RU error in the bottom half of the inning.

Regis scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning as Erica Mann drew a bases-loaded walk.

CSC moved the tying run to third base, but Taylor Armitage closed out the win inducing her 16th ground out of the game. Armitage (W, 6-4) went the distance for the Rangers and allowed eight hits.

Game Notes: RU has now won 13 of their last 14 games. Over that stretch, Regis has outscored its opponents 122-37. Hernandez led the Rangers with two hits, including her third homer of the season.

Next Up For The Rangers: The softball team and Chadron State wrap up the four-game series on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. MDT at the CSC Softball Field.
