DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team picked up two conference victories as it defeated Fort Lewis College, 11-1 and 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field.
Regis improves its record to 17-9 overall and 12-2 in the RMAC. The Rangers have won 16 of their last 18 games.
How It Happened | Game 1: Regis scored all of their runs in the first and fourth innings and Logan Losh allowed just three hits in a 11-1 victory in five innings to open the series.
RU jumped out to an early lead as it scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Tori Brown and Briana Benoit provided the big hits for the Rangers in the inning. The Rangers also scored on a sacrifice fly and wild pitch.
Regis added six runs as it batted around in the fourth inning. Jaiden Johnson started the scoring with an RBI double and came home on Ana Apodaca's second sacrifice fly of the game. Taylor Armitage pulled a double into the left field corner to score two. Delaney McGinn would force in a run on her bases loaded walk and Johnson laced a single off the glove for a run-scoring infield single.
The 11-run total was more than enough for Losh, who picked up her ninth victory of the year. Losh struckout three and allowed one run. The Skyhawks run came before their first hit and was unearned.
Game Notes: Johnson, Apodaca, Armitage and Benoit each had two-RBI games for RU. Johnson had three hits and was one of four Rangers to score two runs. Losh has allowed just one earned run in her last four starts.
How It Happened | Game 2: Regis scored in five different innings and relied on key pitching from Armitage to capture a 6-1 win in game two of the doubleheader.
Apodaca's fifth home run of the season put the Rangers on the board in the first inning. The Regis offense went on to score runs on Delany McGinn's single in the second inning and two bases loaded walks to Heronema and Hernandez.
Fort Lewis had a chance in the second inning to tie the game, but Armitage shut the door and went on to retire 12-straight FLC batters.
The Skyhawks managed to rattle one run from Armitage in the sixth, but she struckout FLC's Emily Selby looking to end a bases loaded threat and maintain the RU three-run lead.
Emily John tripled off the top of the right field fence to drive in a run in the bottom of the sixth and scored on Losh's single up the middle to cap RU's scoring.
FLC's quest to rally in the seventh inning was squashed as Johnson made a leaping grab at shortstop for the game's final out.
Game Notes: Armitage picked up her seventh win of the season. Losh paced the Rangers with three hits and an RBI. Six different players each had one RBI for RU. Johnson's 14-game hitting streak was snapped.
Next Up For The Rangers: The Rangers conclude their series with the Skyhawks on Sunday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Live stats and video will be available via RegisRangers.com.
