Game Recap: Softball |

Losh, Armitage Guide Rangers Past Thunderwolves

DENVER – Pitchers Logan Losh and Taylor Armitage tossed shutouts for the Regis University softball team that picked up two wins, 6-0 and 1-0, over Colorado State University - Pueblo on Sunday.

At the halfway point in conference play, Regis is 22-10 overall and third in the RMAC standing with a 17-3 RMAC record.

How It Happened | Game 1: Logan Losh twirled a gem and the Rangers split their runs over two innings in a 6-0 win.

The victory gave RU its fifth-straight conference series victory to kickoff RMAC play.

Losh, the reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week, scattered four hits in seven innings to pick up her 12th win of the season for the Rangers.

Regis had two three-run innings to back Losh's strong performance. Brianna Benoit, Emily John and Melissa Heronema plated runs with singles in the second inning to stake RU to an early lead.

RU added three more runs in the fourth on a throwing error and two-run double from Ana Apodaca.

Losh settled after two runners reached in the first inning. No runners reached second or beyond after the first inning, as Losh picked up her second win of the weekend against the Thunderwolves.

Game Notes: Losh tossed 60 of her 84 pitches for strikes. Apodaca's RBIs gives her 27 on the year.  Losh remains among the conference leaders in several pitching categories.  Lauren Hernandez and John had two hits. Regis batters had only one strikeout.

How It Happened | Game 2: Taylor Armitage tossed a four-hit shutout and Macy Cox delivered the game-winning hit late to give the Rangers a 1-0 win and four-game sweep of the Thunderwolves.

Both teams traded zeros prior to the Rangers platting the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth. Alisha Martinez ripped a two-out double into the gap and scored on Cox's hard-hit single past the pitcher.

CSU-Pueblo put two runners on in the seventh inning with one out, but Armitage induced a ground ball double play to end the game.

Armitage picked up her first shutout and ninth win of the season. She allowed four hits and retired the first seven batters she faced to start the game.

Regis had other opportunities to score early in the game, but squandered bases loaded situations in the second and third innings.

Game Notes: The game-ending double play was the second by the Rangers in Armitage starts in the series. This was the first 1-0 game of the year for Regis. Apodaca went 2-for-2 to lead the Rangers and seven other players recorded hits.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis will play in-town rival Metro State in a four-game series with doubleheaders on Friday starting at 4 p.m. and Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
