DENVER – The Regis University softball team was handed a pair of losses by Metro State, 3-0 and 14-0, on Friday evening at the Regency Athletic Complex.
The losses snapped the Rangers four-game winning streak and puts them at 22-12 overall and 17-5 in conference play.Â
How It Happened | Game 1: The Rangers tallied just four hits in the opening game of the holiday weekend series and were shutout for just the second time this season.
RU had runners on base in five of the seven innings, but could not capitalize on any opportunities.Â
Tori Brown doubled and reached third in the second inning, but was picked off to end the frame. Regis would advance just one more runner to second base in the game.
Logan Losh (12-5) took the loss in the circle for the Rangers, allowing just one earned run and striking out four.Â
Metro State tallied single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.Â
Game Notes: The Rangers' four hits came off the bats of Brown, Melissa Heronema, Brianna Benoit and Taylor Armitage. RU committed two errors in the game leading to two runs for Metro State.Â
How It Happened | Game 2: Metro State jumped out to an early lead and Regis was held to just two hits in run-rule shortened game.Â
The Rangers had a chance to take an early lead with two runners in scoring position in the first inning after Brown's double, but were stranded after an inning-ending strikeout.Â
The Roadrunners scored seven runs, including a two runs scoring on a sacrifice fly and error, in the first inning. Metro State would score two runs in the second and fourth innings and three runs in the third.Â
Regis managed a single off the bat of Benoit in the second inning for its final hit of the game.Â
Starter Taylor Armitage (9-7) was unable to make it out of the first innings. She allowed six earned runs and faced nine batters.
Game Notes: The Rangers used four pitchers for the first time since the opening weekend of the season. The back-to-back losses are the first for the Rangers since Feb. 9 and 10 of this year.Â
