Losh Tosses First-Career No Hitter In Rangers Victories

DENVER – Logan Losh tossed a no hitter and Taylor Armitage followed with a strong outing in the circle for the Regis University softball team, which picked up two victories over Colorado Christian University on Saturday.

The Rangers tightened the top three spots in the RMAC conference standings with the doubleheader victories. Regis is 25-13 overall and 20-6 in conference play.

How It Happened | Game 1: Losh stymied the conference's second top offense to notch her first-career collegiate no hitter and Alisha Martinez belted a homer to lead the Rangers to a 6-0 victory.

Losh, the two-time conference pitcher of the week this season, retired the first 17 batters she faced and struck out six on the way to her 14th victory of the season.

Martinez's first-career home run came in the third inning and capped the Rangers' six-run output. RU tallied four runs in the second inning with Emily John driving in two runs and two runs scoring on a throwing error.

The run support allowed Losh to attack the Cougars who came into the game averaging more than eight runs per game. She did not allow a ball out of the infield and induced 11 ground ball outs.

Her perfect game was side tracked due to an errant throw on a routine ground ball in the sixth inning. One other runner reached on a walk with two outs in the seventh inning.

Game Notes: The complete game shutout was the fifth of the season for Losh. Melissa Heronema stole two bases and is now tied for the single-season record (33). She has not been caught stealing in 33 attempts this season. Seven Rangers recorded at least one hit.

How It Happened | Game 2: Taylor Armitage earned her 10th victory of the season and the Rangers capitalized on a three-run sixth inning to defeat CCU, 4-2.

Macy Cox's heads-up baserunning provided the first run of the game in the third inning. An infield single off the bat of John trickled away from the CCU first baseman just enough for Cox to scamper home.

Colorado Christian responded with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning that barely beat the throw by Martinez from left field.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Martinez flared a single into right field that put the Rangers ahead a run. Brianna Benoit followed with a two-run single off the glove of the CCU first baseman that put the Rangers up 4-1.

The Cougars hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh, but Armitage retired the next two batters to capture the doubleheader sweep. She allowed one earned run, while striking out three, and surrendering five hits.

Game Notes: Armitage tossed just 82 pitches and did not yield a walk. She held the top four batters to two hits in 12 at bats.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis goes for the four-game series sweep on Sunday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Regis Softball Field. Live stats and video are available via RegisRangers.com.
