Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Regis' season ends with loss to Le Moyne in semifinal round of NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – The historic and record-breaking 2018 season was brought to a close for the Regis University women's lacrosse team (17-5) on Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Regis made their debut appearance in the semifinal-round, while their opponents, the Le Moyne College Dolphins, made their fourth-straight trip to the semifinals. The difference in experience proved to be the determining factor in the match as the Dolphins (21-1) ended the Rangers' historic run with an 18-1 defeat.

How It Happened: For the third-consecutive game, RU dug themselves a hole as Le Moyne strung together a 6-0 scoring burst to begin the game. With less than 16 minutes on the clock in the opening half, junior Lauren Hurd put Regis on the board as she netted her shot from a free-position attempt to stop the bleeding.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, it was not enough to stop spark any kind of change in the direction of the game. The Dolpins closed out the game on a 12-0 run which included 11-straight saves from the Le Moyne goalkeeper. On the other end, it seemed as if everything was going the way of the Dolphins who went on to tally 18 total goals.

Game Notes: RU was outperformed in many aspects of the game with Le Moyne outshooting them 33-22, forcing more turnovers (18-12), recording more saves (12-14), and securing more ground balls (19-14) and draw controls (12-9). Hurd's goal in the 14thminute of the first half was the only goal scored for the nation's ninth-ranked offense.

Up Next for the Rangers: Although the season came to an end earlier than expected, the 2018 season was one for the record books. Regis made history by advancing further than any team in program history. The team, and many of the players, received numerous well-deserved accolades for their performance this season.

Head Regis Women's Lacrosse Coach, Sarah Kellner, guided her team to another 17-win season, which matches the most wins in single-season team history that was set last season. The team loves to talk about being a "family", and they embody this mantra to the fullest. The amount of support the team received throughout their remarkable journey this season was nothing short of incredible.

The team plays for all the girls that came before, the girls that stand next to them on the field, and all of the players that will come after. They play for their family, their friends and for Regis University. Their success is built on the hard work and dedication established by a group of young ladies that never say die. The 2018 season may have ended, but the footprints left behind from this season will guide the returners and any newcomers to even more success in 2019.
