Rangers Edged Out By Cougars, 1-0, Face Chardon State Friday Afternoon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –  The Regis University softball team was unable to mount a second-straight comeback and suffered a 1-0 loss to Colorado Christian University at the RMAC Tournament Friday morning.

The loss drops the Rangers into the bottom half of the bracket, where they will face No. 8 Chadron State College at 1 p.m. on Friday.

How It Happened: Colorado Christian scored the game's only run after an error in third inning and the Rangers could not capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

Logan Losh, the RMAC Pitcher of the Year, had an outstanding start tossing all seven innings and striking out eight. Unfortunately, an errant throw on a bunt to third basemen Tori Brown allowed CCU's leadoff batter to reach base. Two stolen bases and a single plated Charlotte Romero for the lone run.

Regis had an opportunity to take the first lead of the game but a strikeout by Ana Apodaca and a line drive out to third by Brown ended the threat.

The Rangers had two other opportunities late in the game but failed to push any runs across. Regis put two runners in scoring position with two outs in the sixth but CCU got Delaney McGinn to groundout to end the threat.

Alisha Martinez opened the seventh with a double to left center giving RU hope. After recording the first two outs, CCU decided to intentionally walk Jaiden Johnson. The move paid off as pinch hitter Taylor Armitage grounded out to third to end the game.

Losh did her part to keep the Rangers in the game throughout as she stranded eight CCU runners. She gave up six hits and walked only one.

Game Notes: Lauren Hernandez had two hits to pace the Rangers. In addition to her strikeout total, Losh recorded three assists.

Next Up For The Rangers: RU went 3-1 against the Eagles this year. Chardon State lost to top-seed Colorado Mesa, 3-2 on Thursday. A loss will send the Rangers home, while a win will advance them to a matchup against Adams State, Colorado Mesa or MSU Denver at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
