DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Premier Challenge got off to a great start for the No. 10 ranked Regis University volleyball team (3-2) as they made quick work of No. 21 ranked Missouri Western State University (4-1), winning the match 3-1.
How It Happened: Sophomore
Caitlyn Burroway was the standout performer who paced Regis to the win behind a career-high 21 kills. The Rangers looked a little sleepy in first set, handing the Griffons a 25-23 win in the opening set.
RU shook off the cobwebs and got down to business in the second set. Burroway and junior
Nikki Kennedy each had six kills in the second set that saw Regis pound the ball for a .394 attack percentage, committing only two errors on 33 total attacks. The Rangers tied the game at one set apiece with a 25-19 set two win.
Everything kept rolling for the Blue and Gold in the third set as junior setter
Silvia Basso kept feeding her hitters with perfectly placed sets. Burroway put away another six kills and junior
Izzy Gosar added five of her own. RU never trailed in the set, putting three-straight points on the board to begin the match and never looking back. The team cruised to a 25-21 win in the third, taking a 2-1 set lead.
The final set of the game might have been the strongest for Regis who posted a staggering .464 attack percentage in the frame. Again, it was Burroway who led the way with her third-set in a row with six kills. The Rangers did not surrender the lead one time throughout the fourth set as the team went on to earn the 25-19 match-clinching victory.
Game Notes: Burroway set a new career-high with 21 kills and Basso recorded a new career-high with 61 assists in only four sets of work. As a team, RU hit at a .326 clip on 138 total attacks. Kennedy tallied 16 kills, Gosar added 13 and junior
Kelsey Green had nine. Burroway captured a double-double by adding 13 digs. Senior
Kristina Schell also recorded 13 digs in the effort while sophomore
