No. 21 Rangers fly past the Chadron State College Eagles in three sets

CHADRON, Neb. – The No. 21 ranked Regis University volleyball team (7-5, 3-1 RMAC) hit the road for a conference matchup with the Chadron State College Eagles (2-9, 0-3 RMAC) coming away with their second-straight sweep of a conference opponent.

How It Happened: The opening set saw Regis surrender a couple points early, but the team settled in and opened up an 11-7 lead which forced the Eagles into calling a timeout. The Rangers rattled off three more points in a row capped off by a kill from junior Nikki Kennedy. The dominance would continue for Kennedy as she popped off for six kills on seven total attack attempts, leading to a very impressive .857 attack percentage in the opening frame. RU won the set 25-20 on a kill from junior Izzy Gosar.

CSC stuck around for a little while in the second set before Regis broke it open again. Kennedy and Gosar each tallied five kills in the second set while sophomore Caitlyn Burroway and freshman Rachel Siurek each collected three kills in the set, helping the Rangers to a 25-19 second set victory. After hitting .316 in the first set, RU improved with a .343 attack percentage in the second set.

Regis headed into the third and final set in search of their second-straight three-game sweep. The score tilted back-and-forth until the Eagles found themselves with a 10-7 lead early on in the set. However, Kennedy (4), Gosar (4), Burroway (3) and unior Kelsey Green (3) combined for 15 kills, bringing the Rangers back into the game. After taking the lead, RU never took their foot off the pedal, cruising to a 25-20 win and their second-consecutive sweep inside the conference.

Game Notes: Kennedy posted a game-high 15 kills on 22 total attacks, committing only two errors for a .591 attack percentage. Gosar followed with 12 kills and two blocks, swinging at a .346 clip. Senior libero Kristina Schell dug out 19 balls defensively while also recording two service aces in the match. Junior Silvia Basso totaled 35 assists in the match (11.67 assists per set) and two blocks.
