ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (2-1-2, 1-0 RMAC) defeated Adams State University (1-3, 0-1 RMAC) 3-2 on Friday night in Alamosa, Colorado, earning their first conference win of the season.
How It Happened: The Rangers dominated the entire first half as they out-shot the Adams State 8-1, but it was the Grizzlies that capitalized on their opportunities, finding the back of the net in the 14thminute of action.
RU placed half of their first half shots on target, forcing the Adams State goalkeeper to make four saves. Regis also generated four corner kicks but were unable to execute.
The only thing that changed in the second half was that the Rangers were able to find the back of the net, scoring three goals in a 10-minute span. Senior
Cat Devitt equalized the score-line, 1-1, three minutes into the second half. She was assisted by junior
Emily Ramos.
Ramos scored a goal of her own just two minutes later, giving RU the edge, 2-1. Sophomore
Natasha Wehner provided some cushion for RU in the 55thminute as she scored her first goal of the season. Wehner was assisted by Ramos to give Regis a 3-1 advantage.
The Grizzlies sent numbers forward and were able to close the margin to 3-2 in the 85thminute.
Game Notes: The Rangers placed nine of their 16 shots on frame compared to 4-of-8 shots on target from Adams State.
Ramos added two assists and a goal to her name in the 3-2 victory. Devitt placed 4-of-5 of her attempts on frame while Ramos managed 2-of-4 on target.
Coombs tallied two saves against eight shots.
RU generated five corner opportunities compared to the Grizzlies one. Fouls were lopsided, 7-2, with seven called against Regis, but no cautions were given.
