DENVER, Colo. – The No. 23 ranked Regis University volleyball team (10-5, 6-1 RMAC) earned another conference sweep as they breezed past the Colorado State University – Pueblo ThunderWolves (4-12, 1-5 RMAC)in three sets on Saturday night.
How It Happened: Another well put together performance from Regis led to their second-straight sweep of a conference opponent. Similar to the previous night, the first set was the closest of the night with the Rangers edging out the ThunderWolves 25-21. RU hit a match best .371 in the opening set.
Set two was a 25-19 win for the Rangers, but the defense held CSU Pueblo to a .179 attack percentage. Solid blocking and defense behind the block allowed RU to play in-system for most of the set. The attack percentage dropped to .270 in the second set for Regis, but their overall performance got better.
For the second night in a row, the Rangers headed into the third set with a two-set lead, looking to close the door on a sweep. The visiting ThunderWolves jumped out to a 6-2 following two service aces, but junior
Silvia Basso stopped their run with a dump shot at the net. A few points later, RU took the lead 9-8 which forced CSU Pueblo into calling a timeout. Holding on to a one-point lead, 13-12, Regis strung together four-straight points that included a service ace from sophomore
Sophie Griese and a kill from fellow sophomore Caitlin Burroway.
After two-points from the visitors, the Rangers scored another four points in a row, jumping out to a 21-14 lead. RU ended the game with three-straight points featuring a kill from junior
Nikki Kennedy and a service ace from redshirt-senior
Drew Rhamy. Final score of set three, 25-16 in favor of Regis.
Game Notes: Burroway was the kill leader for the Rangers with 12, also collecting eight digs and two assists in the match. Junior
Kelsey Green finished the night with nine kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Junior
Izzy Gosar led the squad with an impressive .438 hitting percentage, committing zero errors in 16 attempts capping off a weekend where she collected 14 kills without an attacking error. Basso had 33 assists in the match and senior
Kristina Schell led the defense with 11 digs, adding one kill on one attack attempt. Kennedy was the leader in blocks with four, adding eight kills with a .353 attack percentage. As a team, RU put up a .304 attack percentage, recording five blocks and seven aces.
