Game Recap: Volleyball |

Kennedy and Burroway carry No. 15 RU past UCCS

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University volleyball team (5-5, 1-1 RMAC) capped off the weekend with a big 3-1 win over the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (2-8, 0-2 RMAC) on Saturday night.

How it Happened: The match was a test for Regis as they were coming off a five-set loss to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers from the night before. The team rebounded and managed to improve as the match went on.

Set one went to the Mountain Lions who edged the Rangers 25-23 in a scrappy set. RU hit .265 for the set, which was .028 points higher than their opponents, but UCCS found a way to escape with an opening set win. The second set saw Regis collect 16 kills in 38 attack attempts, helping the team to a 25-23 revenge win in the second set.

The third set was where the Rangers really set themselves apart from the Mountain Lions. The team cruised to a 25-21 win behind an excellent attack that posted a .368 attack percentage. If that was not enough, RU improved on that in the fourth set, dominating the Mountain Lions 25-18 for the match. Four blocks and a .424 attack percentage was the main reason for the blowout in the fourth set.

Game Notes: Sophomore Caitlyn Burroway and junior Nikki Kennedy each posted 16 kills on the night as juniors Izzy Gosar and Kelsey Green also reached double-digit kills with 11 apiece. Kennedy recorded a match-high .552 attack percentage, committing zero attack errors on 29 total attacks. Burroway added another double-double to her resume, posting 11 but it was junior setter Silvia Basso who led the team with 14 digs, adding 53 assists and one kill as well.

Up next for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked volleyball team will have two days to rest and prepare for another conference matchup on Tuesday, September 11 when they take on the Colorado Christian University Cougars at 7 p.m. in the Regis Fieldhouse.
