ALAMOSA, Colo. – The newly No. 15 ranked Regis University volleyball team (15-3, 9-1 RMAC) cruised past the Adams State University Grizzlies (7-12, 4-6 RMAC) in straight-sets to earn their sixth consecutive win in a row.
How It Happened: Riding a five-match winning streak, Regis was eager to continue their winning ways and earn a sixth-straight victory on Friday night. The opening set went to the Rangers in dominant fashion, 25-14.
The teams battle back and forth to begin the second set, with the score remaining close until a brief run from the home side led to a 15-12 deficit for Regis. Head coach,
Joel List, called a timeout to get his team back on track. The timeout seemed to help as the Rangers tied the game at 17 points apiece following a big block at the net from seniors
Izzy Gosar and
Nikki Kennedy. With the score all knotted up at 23, RU edged out the Grizzlies for the 24th point which forced ASU to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Grizzlies prepared an attack which was stifled by redshirt-senior
Kristen Hornung and Gosar, giving Regis a 25-23 win and a 2-0 set advantage in the match.
Another impressive showing in the third set saw the Rangers jump out to a 17-12 lead after Kennedy put a massive swing away after senior setter
Silvia Basso gave her a perfect pass on a slide. The Grizzlies tried to claw their way back, but RU was not going to allow that to happen as they ran away with the set 25-20 and a three-set sweep of ASU, earning their sixth win in a row.
Game Notes: Stats for the game will be available shortly as there were statistical difficulties.
Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked Regis University volleyball team will finish out their weekend road trip with a stop in Durango, Colorado tomorrow evening when they take on the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks at 5 p.m.
