No. 15 RU remains undefeated on the road, Burroway reaches 1,000 career digs

DURANGO, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University volleyball team (16-3, 10-1 RMAC) improved to a perfect 8-0 on the road this season with a three-set sweep of the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (8-12, 4-7 RMAC) on Saturday evening.

How It Happened: Riding an 11-set winning streak, Regis pushed the streak up to 14 sets after punishing FLC from the opening set. As the match progressed, the Rangers wore down the Skyhawks and the margins of victory each set grew.

The first set was an offensive showcase from RU who scored 21 of their 25 points by way of kills. The team only committed one error in the first set for a .556 hitting percentage. This was by far the highest for the match for Regis who actually found themselves trailing 12-9 midway through the set. The team rallied their way back to win the set 25-21 after a slow start.

The Rangers did not post staggering hitting percentages in the following sets, but the defense was able to hold FLC to .069 and .000 in sets two and three, respectively. Senior setter Silvia Basso sent her passes into perfect pockets for the pins and middles to put down offensively. RU capped off the night by winning the final six points, earning the 3-0 sweep over the Skyhawks.

Game Notes: Another solid performance from Basso, who tallied 44 assists (14.67 assists per set) allowed her attackers to unleash. Coupled with last night's performance, junior Caitlyn Burroway reached a very impressive milestone, eclipsing 1,000 career digs to put her in the top-25 all-time in the Regis record books.

Senior Izzy Gosar was the leading attacker with 13 kills on the night, but fellow senior Nikki Kennedy had 11 of her own to go along with a match-high .500 attack percentage. Redshirt-senior Kristen Hornung stuffed four shots at the net to lead the team and she also had nine kills. Freshman Haley Kennedy led the way with 17 digs in the match.

Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked Regis Rangers will return home for two matches next Friday and Saturday when they host the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 25. The following day, the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs will come to town to face RU at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
