DENVER, Colo. – Tack on another win, and three more sets to the streaks for the No. 9 ranked Regis University volleyball team (22-3, 15-1 RMAC) as they fend off a worthy opponent in the Dixie State University Trailblazers and take the match in three.
How It Happened: The opening set opened up with Dixie State taking a sizeable lead, but anyone who knows Regis would tell you not to worry. The team regrouped and a three-point run midway through the opening set gave the Rangers a 10-9 lead. The most impressive part of the set was a 9-0 run from the home side to take a 23-14 lead after just being tied at 14. RU closed out the set and took a 1-0 lead.
The second set was much like the first with Regis going down early and then fighting their way back. Another late set run put the Rangers ahead 21-13 and the rest was history, as they got their 2-0 set lead with a 25-15 win in set two.
The third and final set was the rowdiest of the night. The DSU football team, in town for a game against No. 8 ranked Colorado School of Mines, showed up at the start of the third-set to cheer on their volleyball team who was down two sets to none. The Trailblazers used the energy from the football team to keep them in the match. DSU took a 21-19 lead late in the third set, but back-to-back kills from senior
Nikki Kennedy tied the match at 21. An attack error from Dixie State gave RU the lead one point later, 22-21. Regis scored three of the final four points of the match and a service ace from Kennedy ended the match and extended both winning streaks for the Rangers.
