Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regis cruises to 84-71 win over St. Mary's University

DENVER, Colo. – Two games into the season and the Regis University men's basketball team is undefeated in non-conference play. Today, Regis took down the St. Mary's University Rattlers (1-1) 84-71 behind a combined 34 combined points from freshmen Aaron Bokol and Will Cranston-Lown.

How It Happened: It was a very tightly contested ballgame at halftime as the Rangers held a one-point advantage on the scoreboard, 40-39. The Rattlers Caleb Jordan had 18 points in the first half, but efficient shooting from RU provided a much-needed counter attack.

St. Mary's took the lead with an early bucket at the start of the second half, but that quickly turned around and Regis took a seven-point lead following a fast break layup from sophomore Toni Rocak less than three minutes into the second half.

That lead vanished for the Rangers when the Rattlers knocked down two free throws at the 13:06 mark. This did not threaten an RU team that knew they had some work to do. The team started to gain momentum after a big jump shot from Cranston-Lown put Regis in front, 69-67 with less than four minutes on the clock.

Following a 13-2 run down the stretch, the Rangers extended their lead to as many as 13 points, 82-69 with only 27 seconds remaining. The final score was 84-71 in favor of RU when the final horn sounded.

Game Notes: Bokol was the high-point man for Regis this evening with 18 points on a very efficient 6-of-8 from the field. He also knocked in 5-of-6 free throw attempts and grabbed seven boards to go along with four assists. Cranston-Lown (6-9 FG, 1-3 3-PT) added 16 points, a team-high eight rebounds and three assists. Junior Tomas Auruskevicius (2-9 FG, 8-8 FT, ) and Rocak (4-11 FG, 2-2 FT, 5 REB, 3 AST) were the other Rangers in double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, RU finished the night 30-64 from the field (46.9 percent) and 6-of-20 (30 percent) from beyond the arc.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will have a weekend off next weekend, and then they head to Portland, Oregon for two more non-conference games. The first matchup will be a game against Concordia University (ORE.)  on November 22 at 7:15 p.m. followed by a game against Western Oregon University the next night at 5 p.m.
