Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

RU's four-game winning streak comes to an end with 77-64 loss to UCCS

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (7-2, 2-1 RMAC) were derailed off their four-game winning streak with a 77-64 loss to the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (6-2, 3-1 RMAC) on Friday night.

How It Happened: Regis came out of the gates shooting really well which led to an 18-7 lead after six minutes of play. After this 11-point lead, UCCS began to chip away when the Rangers' shooting went cold. By the 8:39 mark of the half, the game was tied at 23 points apiece. At the break, the Mountain Lions had built a three-point lead, 37-34.

The second half was where things started to spiral out of control for RU. Within seven minutes of the start of the second half, UCCS owned a 55-37 lead after they continued to knock down shot after shot. Regis had a hard time getting a shot to fall, and the lead grew to as many as 22 points, 72-50, before the Rangers managed to close the gap slightly before the half ended with the Mountain Lions ahead 77-64.

Game Notes: Junior Brian Dawson was the only player for RU who scored in double-figures with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Freshman Will Cranston-Lown (3-6 FG, 2-3 FT), senior Roberto Vercellino (3-4 FG, 1-1 3-PT) and sophomore Toni Rocak (3-6 FG, 3-3 FT) each had eight points in the game. Regis finished the game with a shooting percentage of 44.2 percent while UCCS shot 46.3 percent including nine three-pointers. The 20 points off turnovers the Rangers surrendered did not do them any favors, but RU did outscore the Mountain Lions 18-14 in fast break points.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will return to the Regis Field House tomorrow evening to battle the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers at 5 p.m.
