Baseball downed by No. 10 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Tex. – The Regis University baseball team (1-2) fell short against No. 10 West Texas A&M University (9-0), 16-1, in game one of a four-game regional series at Wilder Park on Friday.

How It Happened: Regis trailed 3-0 after allowing one run in each of the first three innings. Offensively, the Rangers went three-up three-down in the first two innings before freshman Ben Kittay recorded their first hit in the top of the third.

RU had just two base runners through the first five innings as 10 of their first 15 outs were called on strikes. The Buffs threatened to extend their lead, placing a runner in scoring position in the fourth and fifth inning but the Regis defense buckled down to escape with no further damage.

After starting the sixth inning with two fly-outs to outfield, senior Connor Rochon singled up the middle and advanced to second base on an error. He came around to get
RU on the board with an RBI single by senior Logan Heflebower.

West Texas scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth after four hitters were hit by a pitch and two were walked. They extended their lead to 16-1 with one run in the seventh and five in the eighth.

Game Notes: Rochon (3-4) accounted for three of the Rangers six hits. Junior Cobe Karhoff was given the loss on bump after allowing four runs on nine hits.
West Texas tallied 18 hits.

Up next for the Rangers: The Regis University baseball team with play two seven inning games in a double-headed against West Texas A&M University starting at 1 p.m. MT tomorrow.
